Michel De Paepe

Michel De Paepe (°1972) is professor of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the Ghent University.

He graduated as Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering at the Ghent University in 1995. In 1999 he obtained the PhD in Electromechanical Engineering at the Ghent University, graduating on `Steam Injected Gas Turbines with water Recovery´.

Michel De Paepe is honorary professor at the University of Cape Town.

He is member of the Sustainable Thermo-Fluid Systems Research Team. Research in his team focuses on the thermodynamics of sustainable thermal energy systems, thermal energy storage, energy efficiency in buildings, in industry and in electrical drive trains.

Michel De Paepe is president of EnergGhentIC, the interdisciplinary community of Ghent University innovating our energy future in partnership with industry and policy makers.

Selected projects & research platforms

  • The research group Sustainable Thermo-Fluid Energy Systems (STFES) has expertise on machines and systems where heat and flow are the main energy carriers. The research lines are focused on mass and heat transfer, thermal cycles and thermal machines. Both experimental and numerical techniques are used for the analysis, design and optimization of these systems, resulting in a unique position in the field.
