Jeremy Pitman was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1988 and was awarded a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, in 2010 and 2015 respectively. After completing a 3-month research internship in 2015 at ENSAM/ ParisTech in Paris, France, Jeremy worked as a design engineer at a South African dental implant manufacturer for 4 years. In 2020, he enrolled for a PhD at Ghent University in Belgium, which he successfully defended in 2024 under the title: ‘Critical decisions in immediate implant dentistry’. He is currently employed part-time as a researcher in the department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology at Ghent University. Outside of his role as a researcher, Jeremy works as an independent software consultant on cloud native java web application and multiclass classification machine learning projects.
